I am thinking about useing a kvm switch from my pc comp to my ubuntu comp. Save the money and keep my two 17inch screens, and just use them for the ubuntu comp. I'd also like to ahve dual view for my ubunut comp. But I dont know if theirs a way to do dual view with a kvm, anyone know?

Hello - Can you elaborate more on what you mean by 'dual view' .

KVM devices are traditionally used with 1-keyboard, monitor and mouse with multiple computers.

However Synergy (http://synergy2.sourceforge.net/) may be what you are looking for.

Snip from Synergy Site
--------------------------------

Synergy lets you easily share a single mouse and keyboard between multiple computers with different operating systems, each with its own display, without special hardware. It's intended for users with multiple computers on their desk since each system uses its own monitor(s).

Redirecting the mouse and keyboard is as simple as moving the mouse off the edge of your screen. Synergy also merges the clipboards of all the systems into one, allowing cut-and-paste between systems. Furthermore, it synchronizes screen savers so they all start and stop together and, if screen locking is enabled, only one screen requires a password to unlock them all. Learn more about how it works.

----------------------------------------

Hope this helps. :)

dual view- its something that lets you have more then one screen that extends your desktop onto more then one screen. Many whom do art on their pc's use dual view.

i think what he means is he wants to have 2 monitors hooked up, that can both be switched in tandem between the 2 computers. hope that make a bit more sense

This is a very old post but it never had a good reply.

From what I understand there are very few dual view KVM's, especially ones that support DVI/DVI. If you're just looking for VGA/VGA or DVI/VGA you have a few other options.

Checkout these manufactures:

http://www.aten.com/
http://www.linkskey.com/
http://www.startech.com/

Both Linkskey and Startech make dual DVI KVM's. If anyone else knows of dual DVI KVM's feel free to let me know.
