I have no idea what is going on in regards to the transition. I have beryl and it's running fine but with the transition I feel lost. I have always used Quinnstorm's take on compiz and I remember before the fork how sync's with compiz proper would cause problems, not the fault of Compiz. With Beryl I felt comfortable updates were steady and stable(for me) now with the merger I'm lost between Compiz and Beryl.
I don't know where Compiz is in regards to certain plugins that I need... Ok want (Wall, Animation, tab+grouper). Compiz extra doesn't have these plugins and I can't find news on the new Compiz-community plug-ins(beryl) project. I found ports of Beryl plug-ins on the Compiz forums but installing them requires compiling and using gconftool-2 to install schema files. I hated gconf-editor and schema files back in the beginning of Compiz. I never thought that this spawn of satan would rise it's ugly head on my computer again. Great thing is that Compiz works really well and really smart people are working on the ported(some brand new) plug-ins. I've never seen a difference between Beryl and Compiz in regards to performance and stability on my box so I'm not expecting any problems there. I just want to know what us Beryl users should do to follow the change.
I like Compiz and I've had it installed along side Beryl for awhile now, but I never really used it that much. With the merger I'm trying to keep up with the change and stay current but everything is really chaotic from my perspective. I glad that the merger will put an end to the useless bashing by users of both branches and I know that Compiz, or whatever it's called in the future, will be much better with the combined talent. The only "real" problem is waiting, which is my problem not project's.
So why make this post?
Mainly to ask where to go for news. I know that the wheels are turning, I just want to see the road their rolling on.
