I don't really know much about this but what makes ubuntu ubuntu? I see that there are loads of project combined togheter linux, gnome, debian, apps gimp etc etc.. but what is actually ubuntu specific?

2. the ideology (humanity towards others - I love it)
3. mark shuttleworth
4. free shipit (I believe it played a considerable role in making ubuntu no 1)

i think ideology behind open source & community are making ubuntu "ubuntu for humans"

Things like presentation (i.e., the LiveCD integrated with the install CD), preinstalled software, and the minor customizations Canonical threw in there altogether make Ubuntu unique compared to other operating systems (be they Unix-based or not). Ideologically, Ubuntu tries to combine free software with user-friendliness to the extent possible.
