View Full Version : Google Earth, and geological oddities

I love Google Earth. You can go to Africa, and look around near the borders of Chad and Egypt and see all kinds of impact craters there, or you can go look at major cites, Area 51, Indonesia and see volcanoes, all kinds of neat stuff.

Then there's this:

in the Southeast United States.

That crescent shape that shows up in every satellite image I've seen is weird. Anybody gots any idea what that is? Its proximity to the Smoky Mountains and the Tennessee Valley, coincidental or not seems odd to me. The crescent shape is too far to the Northwest to be part of Wetumpka, btw.

Or am I just seeing things? Perhaps it's just a vegetative thing that just happens to be crescent shaped?

Any of you Armchair Einsteins got any ideas? :)
