It seems like there's not a lot of momentum in the Arizona LoCo forum... But I was wondering if anyone had thought about getting some Ubuntu CDs (whether from ShipIt, burned at home, or whichever) and just leaving them in Best Buy, Circuit City, etc by the operating system software? A few of the local computer stores may even be willing to put them up as Free without having to be coerced like that. If we were really bad, even, we could tape them to copies of Vista... But without that is fine. This is just as an idea for a way to get the public thinking. A lot of people need something like this to be more in-your-face to be considered.

If we had professional looking disc sleeves I'm also sure that the people working there wouldn't even give them a second glance. Who sneaks software IN, after all?

There're some webpages about doing this kinda thing. It has a special name that eludes me. (Leaving store comps booted w/live CDs)

I don't really think there's anything wrong or illegal about it. At the very worst, it will violate a store policy, and they'll dump the discs. If we "PC-Jack" computers, as we all know, the LiveCD won't hurt the computer, and we're not destroying store property.

I have the courage to do this, because I really don't think anyone would have anything to say about it, and only have things to gain from it.

I do think professional looking packaging is a necessity if we're putting stuff on the shelf. Don't the CDs from Shipit have a nice wrapper?
