A simple test that all can play.

Post a screenshot for others to test their Linux knowledge.

Here is how it works, I will start with this post. I will post a screenshot, and you can guess, the information about the Screenshot: Distro, desktop environment, theme, you can guess as much as you can by whats given in the screenshot......program, version, font type, etc.

If you like you can post a screenshot for others to guess at......you can make your screenshot as challenging and fun as you can, or as easy as you wish......

You can only guess at other screenshots, only post a screenshot or both.

Have fun and let the game begin, test your Linux knowledge:

here is my first screenshot:

Good guess, but no. Not Sabayon.

The only clues that I can pick out are the compiz, nm-applet, menu bar icons.

I'm guessing based on the first two that it is a relatively recent release.

The menu-bar icon uses the start-here icon which doesn't seem to be included in my installation of feisty, so i'm ruling out feisty fawn on that basis alone.

i really don't have much to go on, the font choice doesn't help me much. this game is hard.

i don't think it's an ubuntu distro, but i don't have any experience with other distros, i need another clue.

That could be just about any distro with Gnome and Tango icons installed. My guess: Ubuntu Edgy.

My guess is Arch, the DE is gnome :)

RAV doesn't always use the native DE. He's sneaky.

So far Gnome is correct and it is a recent distro, not Ubuntu, Arch or Zenwalk as some have guessed

so far you can eliminate: Oz, Sabayon, Ubuntu, Arch, & Zenwalk

Here is a strong clue.....check the icons in the launcher panel....one is a dead give away.

Here is a screenshot of my main machine:

It should be easy to determine the browser that is open (to this thread) and the window manager that I use, while quite rare, should be easy to identify to those who have ever encountered it (the hexagonal group of hexagonal icons is the window menu which appears when you click on the border). I didn't show my desktop because it is just a black screen with no icons or taskbars.

The distro might not be readily apparent, but there is a clue to what it is.

I will be interested to see if any can determine the CAD program that I am using in the screenshot.

The CAD program, BRL-CAD. Distro, Slackware? Browser, dillo. WM, no clue.

BRL-CAD - Correct. I am impressed. Have you used it much?

Slackware - Indeed. The 'root' prompt is a giveaway that it is not Ubuntu :) and the BSD-style init scripts would make SW the most likely choice.

Dillo - Yes. I find Dillo to be very useful when I am doing other things that require every byte of RAM they can get (compiling code, rendering graphics, batch process in the GIMP).

That just leaves the WM to figure out.
