Yeah, we don't have any LUG's around here unfortunately. How far south do you guys meet at NOVALug?

Maybe we can start some UUGs :)

Hope we can get some more ativity on the forum. I would think there are more Ubuntu people in Virginia but maybe they don't want to sign on for some reason. I was hoping that we would have more members in the southside of Virginia.

Has anyone up graded to the new Feisty and if they have was there any trouble in the up grade. I have not as of yet. I have sent for the live disk and it should be here in a few weeks. I am on dial up so everything for me takes a long time to do.

No trouble upgrading here, on a custom AMD based desktop, Thinkpad X40 laptop, and Acer Aspire 3000 laptop.

I'm on Fiesty -- didn't upgrade, but did a fresh install.

I'm quite impressed. It used to take effort to get a fully functional media desktop. Now you click on something unsupported, and *blam*: "Would you like to install this codec?". That's pretty awesome:)

NOVALug is pretty active up here. I believe U of R and VCU both have LUGs as well -- you guys in the southern part of the state may have some luck looking at the universities in your area.

Unfortunately no. The Virginia Tech LUG is defunct as far as I know, and that was the closest one I could find.

I just noticed the group today. I'm from NoVA as well, and have at least one other friend in my high school I converted to Ubuntu =P I may have to point him in this direction. Rather new myself though, so I don't know most of your acronyms ^ ^;;

what kind of acronyms are you confused about?

LUGs and UUGs =P

Looked them up and I found that they mean Linux User Group and Unix User Group =)

Hello, I'm also from the NoVa area, I live in Haymarket, but commute back and forth from Fairfax (GMU), also hang around Manassas. I'm somewhat hesitant to upgrade to Feisty, I've read about a lot of problems that people are having, I had Edgy dual booting with XP home, and did a fresh intall of XP Pro and I've been debating whether or not to go ahead and install Feisty or go back to Edgy, what do you guys recommend? your advice is appreciated, on my current laptop looking to have XP pro and Ubuntu. I'm also looking to get a new computer soon (if I get the money), not looking to get Vista, I'm sticking with XP pro and Ubuntu for now.

Thanks.

NoVA as well (Alexandria).

Using Feisty on a dodgy Gateway E4600 and trying to get it installed on a Toshiba Portege 3110CT (no CD-ROM drive, can't boot from USB drive, runs Win98 so instLux doesn't work, Wubi doesn't seem to work either).

What are the benefits of having a LoCo or UG?
