Wine AppDB entry (http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iVersionId=3438)

It appears that some parts work well, and others do not. As far as cursor issues go, I will eventually fix those, but it could be many months because I have a life and other cursor code I want to get into Wine first. The punkbuster issue, well, I don't know what to do about it.

I use to play BF2 too, I've tried it in wine, but it doesn't seem to work. Now a days, I hardly get to play anymore, since I got to study for upcoming events.

Any change someone else will fic it before you? ;) It would make lots of people very happy and apparently it is fixable.

BF2 runs on Cedega, but you need to update Punkbuster manually.

I wanted to bump this because it looks like it's been a year since the last post...

I have recently began to consider Ubuntu, but gosh. If only I could play BF2. It's sad, but that's my only hang up (gaming). I have searched the internet and still haven't found anything concrete to say it is possible AND playable.

I know that I could dualboot as an option, but I might as well continue to use XP.

Does anyone know where this issue stands as of today? If someone could say yes and I didn't have to be a programmer, I would reformat tomorrow. I will continue to read more and learn about linux. Thanks in advance for answers.

Sorry for the big bump, but I just wanted to reply that I tried a few days ago and BF2 sadly still does not work via wine. :-?

it does, supposedly work now:
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=3438

also playonlinux.com has a test script out to play it. But I have not managed to make either one work: http://www.playonlinux.com/en/topic-2403-script_Battlefield_2.html.

The playonlinux script simply won't run. And when installing through Wine the install works fine, but once I am through the game crashes. But then there is the punkbuster issue, which essentially renders the game useless. Nah, I will continue ignoring EA. I am so insulted that they still have not ported to Linux. Will I have to wait for the online boxes to launch to play something EA within Ubuntu? How big is Ubuntu now anyways. Don't we get any say? Quake Wars, when launched, was ported to Linux of day one. That is though, sadly the only major game I know that did that. Can anyone else tell me about any games ported to linux, or some stories of gaming companies actually thinking of us?

Anyways. Linux is like the IRA 'Once in, Never Out' so they darn well better come suit our needs.

BF2 has worked "sort of" for over a year, I've tested it on and off. The part which does not work is that some bits of the ground are transparent or black, otherwise you can kinda play the missions. Just make sure to set OffscreenRenderingMode to fbo
