So, a long, long time ago, I considered switching, but arrived at the conclsion that switching would result in too many hurdles for me to manage, especially because I relied on very specific programs discussion from way back (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=228029)

But, over the last few weeks, I comtemplated putting together a mini itx system for my room, to act as a basic web usage machine. Well, over the weekend, I jumped straight in and ordered a bunch of parts :)

I will be basing this off a Via Epia V8000A with a Via C3 800 MHz processor. I guess I should have come here first before ordering, but is there any support issues with Via products and ubuntu I should be aware of? I did some google searching and I did find one issue regarding an infinite boot cycle, however it appears the poster arrived at a solution.

Hmm while writing this, I realized, hey my wireless usb adaptor might not work, and surely enough, there is no driver for the Trendnet TEW 42somethingUB for linux :( Any suggestions of a wireless usb adaptor that will work with linux?

I would say the hardware support Ubuntu offers has been getting better with every release, so perhaps all of your hardware will be supported

Hmm I just read a thread about that motherboard: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=418988&highlight=mini-itx

It seems like Ubuntu's kernel doesn't support it, but that some other distros do.

I'm curious to follow your thread. Ever since I read about the fanless comp the DSL folks are selling, I got fascinated with the idea of making or buying a fanless mini-ITX computer to use for utilitarian stuff, like web-surfing and such.

Please post your results after install. I'm really curious.
