To subscribe to the LinuxChix mailing lists, go to the appropriate page (linked below) and follow the directions there. The lists now have web-based interfaces, which simplify the process a great deal.
A quick note for people who are using "you cannot send me mail unless you are whitelisted" spam filters: if you subscribe to the linuxchix lists, you must whitelist the lists yourself. The admins will not reply to any "please jump through these hoops to be whitelisted" mails. Such messages will be treated as bounces, and if we get enough of them, we will unsubscribe you, like any other bouncing address.

Posting Rules/Guidelines:
I'm not a big fan of really strict posting rules, so I've created a set of 2 (yes, two) posting guidelines. They're quite simple:
o Be polite.
o Be helpful.
You're bright people. Extrapolate.
Please remember that we are all "newbies" in some way. What might seem like a simple question to you might be a problem with which someone else has been wrestling for days. What might seem like a huge problem to you might be second-nature to someone else. Part of the beauty of the open-source community is that this usually tends to be the case, and one friendly answer offered by one person often saves someone else several days of scouring the web and newsgroups in desperate search of a solution. If someone asks a question, please try to be friendly and helpful if you respond. Try to avoid flaming people, because that's just rude. Also, please don't tell people to "go RTFM". If you know the answer but don't feel like giving it, just say nothing.
To mangle a Confucian saying I once heard, "when words are not better than silence, keep silent".
The announce list
If you're posting for an event (eg: chapter meeting, rally of some sort, lecture being offered, etc.) you should keep in mind the following guidelines:
1.
Please post at least two days before an event if possible.
This is to make sure that the post is seen and approved by a moderator in plenty of time
2.
Please put the DATE as well as the LOCATION and EVENT NAME in the subject of your posting.
You need enough location information so that people know if it's in their area or not. Remember, since LinuxChix come from around the world, you probably need to include the country. The date will also help the moderators because it's clear then if the post needs to be authorized quickly.

Guidelines for jobposts readers
If you're a jobposts subscriber you should keep in mind the following:
* Jobposts ads are moderated, but we only check that the ad looks like a job ad. We don't check the legitimacy of the ad. Exercise normal caution.
* Please do not contact advertisers unless you are an applicant or potential applicant. Advertisers have complained that they get recruiting services contacting them after posting to jobposts — don't do this. If they needed a recruiter's help, they would have posted asking for a recruiter, not an employee.
Guidelines for jobposts advertisers
If you're a poster, you should keep in mind the following:
* Jobposts is for advertisements of currently open positions.
* Advertisements should be posted only by the hiring company itself, its employees or its recruiters. Links to advertisements on company websites or third party job boards are fine, but can also only be posted if you are associated with the hiring company or are directly recruiting for that company.
* Jobposts postings should not contain advertising or promotional material for recruiting services, job boards or anything else that isn't directly related to the advertised position.
* Linuxchix is an international organization, so try to make sure that you've answered the following questions in your post:
1. Which country are you in?
2. Will you take international applicants?
3. Do folks need pre-existing work visas for your country?
4. Can we telecommute?
* The moderators are English speakers. If you want to post a job ad in a language that isn't English, please put a note at the top of your ad in English briefly summarising the job, and/or provide a full English translation of the ad. Otherwise the admins may mistake your message for the non-English spam we regularly receive.
Are LinuxChix lists really just for women?
Nope - with the exception of the grrls-only list. As long as people are generally polite and helpful, anyone is welcome. I reserve the right to change this policy at any time, of course. Please try to remember that these are lists primarily meant for women. Act as if your mom/sister/daughter were subscribed, and everything should be fine :)."
