Our Ubuntu Release Party will be a little late but definitely better late than never.

On Thursday, May 17, 2007, at 6:30 PM the Downtown Grounds Cafe in Montrose, Susquehanna County, PA will be hosting an Ubuntu Release Party to celebrate the Feisty Fawn release.

The evening will consist of a brief OOo Impress presentation, some demos (maybe just YouTube videos), followed by a Q&A session. At least three systems will be available for hands-on experimentation, a Kubuntu, an Edubunto and a plain Ubuntu.

Our primary goal is to increase public awareness about Ubuntu, Linux and FLOSS. While the owner of Downtown Grounds is not a geek herself, she was very impressed with photos of the Linux Caffe in Toronto, especially with the ten-foot Tux the Penguin, and would like to develop a local Linux hangout.

The event will be targeted towards non-technical computer users not Linux geeks but everyone of course is invited. I would personally love to see a group of techies meeting-up and planning an installfest.

If you have friends/family in the area, please tell them about this event

Wow, Montrose. I grew up just across the border in Tioga County, NY. You might want to pass this on to the NY team, you might grab an attendee or two from the Southern Tier (maybe some Binghamton U students).

I am not seeing much of a response here... Have you gotten any response privately? n3gbz, I will look at posting this in the wiki and seeing if we can get any more participation for you!

I wont guarantee anything, but I'm going to try to make it. It depends on my work schedule and a few other factors that I wont get into here.

Lord willin' and the creek don't rise, I'll make an appearance. :)

Hi, ccw,

I lived many years in Chester and Berks counties (while at Burroughs/Sperry/Unisys) so we share several neighboring counties. (My parents lived in Owego for a dozen or so years also.)

One of the members of the Southern Tier of New York Linux Users Group (http://www.stnylug.org/) will be attending and showing off an Ubuntu Beryl box. I posted to their mailing list but hadn't thought about posting to the NY team.

Thanks for making the suggestion.

I know Owego - Apalachin very well.
I didn't know there was a LUG up that way. Anyway, good luck with the party and grab a spiedie for me.

Our Ubuntu 7.04 (formerly Feisty Fawn) Release Party and Information Session was last night and was a very successful event. Attendees ranged from Linux gurus to "What is Linux?" novices.

While most attendees were from Pennsylvania, several were from New York (state). They laughed, they cried, they were moved and they all now know more about Ubuntu, Linux and FLOSS.

Presentation slides are available at

Thanks to all here in this forum who encouraged and supported us!!!

Go ahead and post away. As you say, success stories are important and if anyone can be encouraged by our event and hold their own event, I am all for it!

The pics I have are poor quality but are available on flickr with tag dgurp. I am expecting to get some more from an attendee which I will also post on flickr with dgurp tag.
