I am building an audio amplifier as a class project and I would like to fabricate my own chassis. I would rather draw out the blueprints on the computer than on a napkin. I don't need anything fancy, just something that will let me input the dimensions and give me a scaled, 2D drawing.

I use QCad and am very happy with it.
It is 2D, not 3D.

if you search the forum there are quite a few threads, eg My Ubuntu CAD station (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=141735)

Alack and alas! There are no knitting CAD programs. I have to use Designaknit which only works on Windows.:(
