Hi, I'm looking for some recommendations ;)

My ISP gave me some free web space with lame bandwidth, once a 5mb file is downloaded it goes down for an hour.

I'm not looking to create a web page, I only want somewhere to share my packages, preferably without intrusive adverts. After an hour I only found one nice site (http://www.789mb.com), unfortunately it turned out to have a very low file size limit, making it useless for my needs.

Some file sharing sites only cater to specific interests/topics. You might look for one of those.

I'm also interested in this thread. Found 110mb (http://www.free-webhosts.com/reviews/110mb.php) offer nice, but their method of subscription is... weird. Curently using phpnet.us (www.phpnet.us). They have a very nice personal administrative area, no maximum file size (so they say, didn't tryed), but... also a forced banner.

110mb looks good, just their subscription reminds me of dodgy dealings :-k

the best thing is to try and set up your own server box. I have tried all of the one you guys mentioned and they are very doggy. They pretty much own your site (meaning that they put nasty javascript ads in it).

try asking phatfiddler at www.cutlersoftware.com. If the storage space you want is for a Linux-related project, he'll get you set up totally free (as in gratis), and you get a lot more than 110 mb.

It's not for a project, just for a few packages that others may like. I doubt I could justify being in such good company, I wouldn't want to impose.

I would like to try this (or not, it depends on my current host), but first I have to rewrite my how-to's, rebuild the packages and find were I put the buildscripts... a lot of work because of my old host... they didn't offered backing-up in the free package. After a fatal hardware failure, they do, but to late for me.

This is a great resource:

It's probably the best way to find exactly the free webspace situation and provider you need.

I am currently getting two servers here myself from work gratis. And I am planning on setting up at least one of them for a small production wok formyself in learning Oracle the other one I am not too sure of. I'll be creating a document strictly on creating a server with Ubuntu for this very purpose for home use only. But 100MB and the other one that manicamusician had mentioned are two that I would go for. I had set up a web site for plastigroulx up here in montreal for testing out and creating a new web site that I was working on for them. Try making a server to start off with and set it up in such a way that you can access it the way you need to from either home or from the place that you need to download it to.

Looks like a good community there. I stumbled upon this in a members sig: http://www.urllogix.com/ it's new, but its forum provides some reassuring info.

Ok... managed to get a 110mb account, and I deleted it in about 1 hour or less. Why? Can't use phpmyadmin, but a 110mb thing, that is soooo slow, filesize limit is set to 1Mb until may, and have I mentioned it is slow somethimes? And if there are to many using some service that they offer, you will have to wait...

www.zeeder.com - they have a free account, you do have to pay a $10 set-up fee though, but they are a really good host.
