Even for 64 MB of RAM I wouldn't recommend Xubuntu. IceWM or Fluxbox on Ubuntu is probably a better bet.

I'm not the first one to say it: desktop Linux is perfect for the computer-clueless and the computer expert. It's hardest to adopt for the Windows power users who like to tweak things but hate the command-line or any way of doing things differently from what they're used to.

The first thing my old man asked when I installed linux on his computer was 'Where's Solitaire?'. ;)

I'm just in the process of putting together a Xubuntu box an older gentleman with no experience of computers. This box has 128MB, P3 800... it runs quite well but could benefit from just a little more RAM.

He doesn't know he is getting it yet. But he has hinted in the past that he would like to have a computer. Can't wait to see him try it out. Not looking forward to explaining that he'll have to pay if he wants internet! Unless of course one of his neighbours has an unsecured wireless network :)
