You have to actually set up a network. The easiest way to get this working is probably to set up dhcp on your ubuntu machine. You did not say what exactly it is that you are trying to do, so dont know if this is what you want. You want to setup the server, not dhcpcd the client which is installed by default. You can probably find a howto somewhere very easily.
