What's your favourite text editor?

Just wondering. I have an odd obsession with text editors. My fav would have to be.. this is tough.. Emacs.

My favorite would be nano so far. It's great, don't need to try anything else.

I like Kate, but SciTE and vi are nice too. In windows I use notepad++ and SciTE.

for console / terminal: nano (edit /etc/nanorc and uncomment the syntax coloring)
for X: scite. Syntax highlighting, auto indenting, line numbering, regexp searching, easy and daggone fast

Emacs for everything. When on a fresh install, without Emacs, X doesn't start, and I have to configure xorg.conf by hand, now I use nano, before I used to switch to a working computer and study how to use vi cryptic key bindings lo!

CygnusEd is the best but not available on Linux.
Nedit is cool on Linux, but i generally just use the default Kate.

i use nano to edit the xorg.conf file sometimes. i tried to use it in the book i'm writing, but i couldn't get it to wrap the text.

Not that I consider myself a VIM expert but I know enough to use it comfortably so it's my editor of choice for most editing and simple programming tasks (plus, I have a sheet with all the keyboard shotcuts in case my memory fails me which is quite often ;-)). If I feel that I need some GUI love I use Kate.
