OK, there are two current projects I am currently working on. The first is suppling computers to my daughters school. I know there are a bunch of schools that need them but I have to start somewhere so I did. I am gathering up what ever old hardware I can up then going through and fixing what needs to be fixed. I currently have about 5 or 6 that need something small in each. (ram, nic card, misc things)
Some guys at the local Birmingham-Lug (http://bham-lug.org/) have offered to donate some hardware if they have it when I get them a list. (I should have that by Sat. evening guys). I am keeping the computers of 500Mhz or higher for them.
I plan on installing Edubuntu (http://www.edubuntu.org/) and showing the school what it is capable of. The contact right now is not sure but I think once they see it they will like it an give it a try. I also told them that due to the fact that windows is a liscensed product, I could not give them a computer running windows!
2nd Project, The next http://www.techbirmingham.com/ is coming up on May 1. This is a great place to show what linux is capable of and introduce it to others. The Local LUG have attended a few in the past and it's been great fun. We are expecting even more this year. So there will be a booth representing Linux. Last time we were lucky enough to be right next to Novell/SuSE booth so we were able to feed off of each other.
Please be sure to sign up and attend. If you have any CD's or stickers you would not mind giving away please share. Once we be come an official group we will be able to order a large box of CD's.
Please let me know if anyone has anything to contribute or any suggestions. I plan on taking my desktop to the show so we can show off some Q4, UT2004, Doom3 and other games. As well as Beryl and general apps for Linux. I would show of WoW but canceled me subscription.
Well, Thats all for now.
Ant thoughts?
