NEW YORK — The three executives who run Google Inc. (GOOG) each drew a salary last year of $1. But Chief Executive Eric Schmidt and co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin more than made up for it in the large stakes they own in the online search leader, which has made them billionaires.

Not bad at all. :D

What does free software have to do with Google? This is by far not a the first example of executives getting no more than stocks for their service.

I fail to see what this has to do with free software. Steve Jobs, if I remember correctly, also draws $1 a year.

Perhaps because Google uses Free Software extensively? And also boosts free software by initiatives like Summer of Code?

That doesn't have anything to do with "victory for free software" though.

More like "victory for owners' equity". :p

Ummmmm........... Actually a huge number of companies that provide online services does not use Windows. In fact a huge number of companies uses some form of UNIX on their servers as opposed to Windows. Not to mention that the backend OS has very little to do with financial success.
