So, I tried out the new test 3 release and came on the places menu. Interestingly enough there are more entries than typical such as music pictures video etc...

The really odd thing that is bugging me is why when opening any of the locations in places it loads a half *** nautilus file browser view?

This is the window type it shows, no sidebar menu whatsoever or anything really.

Whats the deal with that?

That's the default mode for Nautilus (i.e. spatial as opposed to browser mode).

hmm weird, I've never seen spatial mode. Then again, I usually use kde and konqueror. Thanks for the explanation though.

Nautilus itself is kinda half-assed, IMO. Like you, I'm a KDE guy, and nautilus is one of the biggest reasons why. You might want to check out the KDE version of the liveCD that debuted in F7 test3. I have it downloaded but not burned, so we'll see.
