Hey guys,

As many of you may know Feisty will soon be released (on the 19th of April 2007). In celebration of this event many LoCos from across the globe will be having their own release parties where they will meet to party, have fun, and of course install as many copies of Feisty as they are humanly able too. We too would like to take part in the celebration by holding our own release party, right here in New York!

Planning for the release party has already begun and we urge you to take part in the planning for this great event. Find out more ways to get involved by signing onto #ubuntu-ny on irc.freenode.net, posting a reply on this thread, or submitting a response to the mailing list (https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-us-ny).

The NYC party will take place on Sunday the 22nd at 3:00 PM at Think Coffee 248 Mercer St. go here (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/NewYorkTeam/Events/FeistyReleaseParty/NYC) for RSVP and more info.

See you at the Party!

-Yosef

I am contacting my college's school of computer science to see if they would be willing partially sponsor an event like this.

That sound great!

If you explain to them what we do and what the focus of this event is, I don't see how they could turn us down. Please let us know of any developments :D.

Lol. Well I certainly appreciate you do the most you could on your end. If we are unable to secure funding from a sponsor we will probably do the next best thing and basically split the cost evenly between us.

Hey why not just get a rather large group and head out to a bar and celebrate???

We actually had a meeting yesterday discussing the release party. The Meeting Summary and Log can be found here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/NewYorkTeam/Meetings/20070411. We decided that having the meeting in a cafe might be the best choice, since it would be a moderate atmosphere and there would be wifi and outlets so for our laptops. What do you think?

Wow that sounds great, any ideas for a definite specific location and/or time and date?

I received an email from a staff member in the Computer Science school, it is as follows
Peter-

Thank you for informing us about the new Ubuntu release. I checked with the chair of the computer science department and was told that we use Debian so we wouldn't be interested in this particular product.

Sorry.

I tried :(

Yeah, that sucks. Was definitely worth a try though. I am glad that you tried. :D.

We will confirm the location and date of the Release Party today at the General Team Meeting at 6PM on IRC. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/NewYorkTeam/Meetings/20070412.

I was just chatting on #ubuntu-ny and we had an idea for a Rochester release party.

Saturday morning LUGOR has an installfest, a few of us can show up there and get even more people involved. Maybe we can get the event in the newspaper if it's big enough (i have friends in the local newspaper). Plus I know a few people who use Ubuntu and aren't members of the forums or anything. This could be a way to entice them.

There's actually a few of us Ubuntonians in and around Rochester. I think we should show those NYC people that they're not the only cool ones! (even if they can't find us on a map).

EDIT: I'm going to start a new thread about this, but I think that the NYC people should know we may be doing this... in case maye they have upstate friends, or if they can help (like if there are tshirts, or stuff being made).
