I have to agree with you. Widescreens are getting amazing, although they cost quite a bit. I'm planning on getting a 22 inch one in like...2 years.

I got a 17" Widescreen for my wife, funny as it was cheaper than the normal ones.

19" WS? And I was considering of buying a 17" one, thinking it is large enough :lolflag:

Have fun with your new monitor :)

I got a 19 inch 4:3. If you do the math, you get more pixels and screen area with a fullscreen. It was an upgrade from 17 inch crt and I love it.

17 is quite good, too--but give the 19 wide a try at a display. the advantage is
displaying full pages side by side conveniently, and it does look like they charge
less than other 19's that use more pixels. could hinge on the price difference
available to you :?:

i love the easy multi tasking facts
and the fact that they dont seem to do dvd's in 4:3 anymore...
so widescreen seemed like a future proof way to go :D

The human eye sees in ovals not ciricles and can see more horizontally than vertically.

I've got a 20" SyncMaster 205BW, at 1680x1050. It's not bad, but not nearly big enough. It's a recipe for eyestrain. I won't buy another widescreen monitor until the 26" or larger ones get down to affordable prices.

One day soon I plan to replace this unit with a pair of 19" 4:3 panels.

Here in my town you get a 19'' (1280x1024) for about the same money as a 19'' wide. The funny thing is that the widescreen is 1440x900, meanning that while it's wider is lower. Doing the math for the 19'' you get 1310720 pixels, while with the wide you get 1296000 pixels, wich is 14720 pixels smaller (a square about 121x121).

I must conclude that going for that 19'' wide is loosing viewable area.

So for a good change in size I would choose a 22'' with at least 1600x1200. Saddly they're insanely expensive around here. That would be like two months of the average salary, and that's just too much for a monitor.

I'm thinking in getting another 19'' (4:3) since I know how big they are and I actually don't see movies in the PC; that's what the TV is for.

In dollars?
19'' (4:3) for about $254
22'' Wide (1680x1050) for mere $545
plus shipping of course.

Wait a minute. The pupil is round. Isn't this because most of us have eyes beside each other rather than one above the other? Cover one eye and look left to right, then lean your head 90 degrees over and look "up & down" for comparison. See what I mean?

i think doctormo meant that we view things as ovals, not that the eye is oval shaped. so yea, you're both right, hehe.

anyway. i have a 19" wide from novatech too, although mine is from acer. i think its fantastic ^_^ when watching films, you have the same screenspace as a 21" square monitor more or less, and multiple windows seem a lot easier to manage than with a 4:3 ratio viewing area.

My Dad just bought a 23" widescreen. It's a Gateway. The thing is so amazing, it has built in speakers reserved for a little piano noise when you turn the thing on.

Next monitor I get will definitely be a widescreen. I hate my current LCD. Can't push it higher then 1028x768. X_X
