Dear all,
It is nice to see a tamil group in Ubuntu. Recently I have installed Kubuntu and installed all possible media players (like mplayer, real player etc) and possible browsers (mozilla, firefox, konqueror, IE 6) and all possible plugins.
But still i could not play Suryan FM from the following site:
www.dinakaran.com/suryanfm
it requires windows media player and nothing comes up in all above browsers. Somebody please help.
thanks

Hi Murli,
Its not that we dont want to help. Its just that page has been designed especially for Internet Explorer, Windows Media Player. So they dont really care about other users. I looked at the website's source code. They have options for using real player, but ironically the presence of Real Player can only be detected using VBSCRIPT. VBScript works only on Internet Explorer. I tried using mplayer to play the mms stream, but it needs username and password, etc. I am sure if someone spends enough time on it they will be able to find a workaround.
For now, if you want to listen to tamil songs, try other internet radios. Jeevan FM is a good one -> http://mp3old.lrdns.com/

seems like we may have some respite.. just hit upon the kplayer page. this is what it says,
Another area where KPlayer excels is seamless use of KDE I/O Slaves (http://kplayer.sourceforge.net/manual/howto-slaves.html) to access various kinds of media through that system. For example, to play a file over a secure shell connection, open the fish:/ URL in Konqueror, find your file, and KPlayer will play it just as if it were a normal local file.
If you need to play a remote file over HTTP that is password protected, tell KPlayer to use the HTTP I/O Slave, and it will pop up the standard login dialog for you to enter your user name and password, and play your file straight from the web server without storing it on your hard drive.
source: http://kplayer.sourceforge.net/
gonna give it a try.. hope it works..
ps: package not in the official repositories, you can either add the kplayer repo location to your sources file or download the deb package from their page.

Are you sure that you can get Suryan FM over inernet on windows?
If so give me the link for windows. www.dinakaran.com/suryanfm/ this link is not working on windows also. After i asked many people i found that Suryan FM is not available over internet.
If you give me a working link for suriyan FM on windows or any other system then i can help u to get the mms link for u.
