View Full Version : "Why I love Linux" -- an open Haiku exchange

A haiku is a poem with 5, 7 and 5 syllables in each line. Here is my attempt at why I love Linux, expressed in this ancient Japanese verse form. Please feel free to add one of your own!

A program stops cold
A dead blank blue screen
A system crashes
And darkness sets on my brow.
Could it be Windows?

(I will think of a way to shorten the Haiku here, thanks!)

I had always heard of a shorter version of Haiku and some of my favorite Windows verses were expressed in 5,7,5:

Windows NT crashed.
I am the Blue Screen of Death.
No one hears your screams.

Yesterday it worked.
Today it is not working.
Windows is like that.

Three things are certain:
Death, taxes, and lost data.
Guess which has occurred.

But to honor Linux, here is my contribution:

Streaming video,
Why do you not work for me?
I miss Jon Stewart.

Ok, ok, to be fair....

O Tux, you're so cute,
Free in speech and free as beer.
Don't fear the penguin.

A long download stops
And I wait to play the game
But windows crashes.

(But hers are better!)

Works for windows but
no Linux drivers found so
I'll buy something else

Beryl is pretty
Wobb'ly windows, glassy themes;
Eye candy galore.

Stable and secure
But the best thing about it -
The forums, for sure.

Heehee... this is fun...

Linux develops
While the devs work
The user uses
And peoples are freed.
We all like Linux
It gives us all hope,
That people are
Not the selfish
Man beasts
That we are fond of
Imagening

A little too jumpy being a Haiku I much prefer the free poetry model:

People stand and people move,
Within the bound of life.
What they seek they never shout
and yet they accept their lives in jest.
For with in the mouth of frail lips
can lay the mercy of many slain or saved.
and with out such grasp of life brought woe?
The working and the playing of thought is not known.
Keep away they that cry and curse their lives,
They are yet to know the machine of themselves.

I yearn to breathe free

I yearn to breathe free,
Without boundaries, without strains;
Like you, Linux, love--

Freedom is nothing
Nothing left to lose perhaps
Yet Linux is free!

They laugh at me now
No programs they always say
But then awed by apt

They will also say
Linux is unusable
Then ask for Beryl

We release early
We also release often
Windows can't catch up!

BTW great idea for a thread!

Keystrokes in the dark
But then a cloud fogs the screen
Can you say Windows?

Linux, painful first
But in the end, joy to hold
No Windows again

But wait! my poor games
What will I do without thee?
Duel-boot fixes all

I made up these myself! (I feel proud :))

Try that on Windows!

You suck so hard all the time.
Why do you hate us?

Well, I knew this would happen.
It's time for Linux.

Lacking Microsoft
No longer lead me astray
Thus I am now free

All free as in speech

Free software for all

Lone Vista: 1 Gig.
Ubuntu with Apps: Half Gig
Fatass is Longhorn!

Linux, free and fast;
Vista, pokey-slow, sucky.
HEY BALDMER, FIX IT!

Windog says it all.
Bloated, slow, useless features.
Format and boot linux!
