...to remove someone's post without an explanation as to why. how can we learn from our mistakes if our teachers are silent?

Staff will make their best effort to issue a warning infraction before editing a post, but that cannot be done at times due to time constraints.
If you have a question regarding why a specific post was edited, refer to it.

actually, someone did contact me and asked me to edit it. i didn't realize it was a moderator until i tried to add the person to my ignore list. it was a pm of a personal nature, so i still don't know if that person was advising me of the post's removal, or not.
i realize i occasionally say something removable and understand it getting removed, even though i can't see why. i don't have a problem with that, but, i can't help getting annoyed by it when i first realize something's been removed. i eventaully get over it.

A warning infraction takes in excess of 5 clicks and, due to database response time, around a minute of total time to issue, so it's understandable that for minor edits a staff member may choose to directly do it, and maybe PM the user about it.
In any case, the FC does not expect that staff will always perfectly follow the warning infraction routine, but should offer an explanation to a user, when requested, why the action was taken.

ubuntu-geek has restored a PM-on-change feature that was dropped during a VBulletin upgrade.
As of now, anytime a staff edits, moves, etc a thread or post, the user will receive PM notification of the action and who did it. That way, at least he can establish contact with the staff member for an explanation.
