In addition to hating tech support, I also hate shopping. I am a girl, and I hate shopping for clothes, shoes and even my tech side hates shopping for... computer parts.

I am a guppy and I'd really just like some sales person to go, "Oh this is exactly the part you need! It'll work GREAT!"

So, I just got a check from the government for $42, and today I broke X trying to force ATI to do a Beryl Roll. I got so jealous of you Nvidia folk I decided to use this check for an Nvidia card.

What AGP Nvidia Card with S Video Out should I get for around or less than $40 for the purpose of using Beryl or whatever you fancy people use?

There's soo many and everyone says it's great it's bad, it's slow, it's just right for the price. I don't know if what I want counts as hard on the computer or... I have a headache. :(

(PS, and if someone wants to give me an Nvidia card with HDMI and give me a reason to buy a new motherboard, that would make me a happy girl ;) ;) I have a TV that's begging to be poked in new places.)

Get the best nvidia card that you can afford with your budget. Most likely even though you have such a small budget, the one you could afford would be well capable of running beryl.

Cute.

Anyway, http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010380048%204025&name=$25%20-%20$50 maybe there's something in there?

Any FX like mine is fx5200 with dual for two monitors, The newer ones will be FX-5600,5700,5900 etc.

Just get one that has your s-video out. Mine was with a crt and DVi out and with an adapter I have dual monitors setup.

Newegg has great prices.

I also run an FX5200 and find it can handle beryl and any games I ask it to play. The dual screen set up is nice and easy too.

This card cost me £15 on eBay a while ago so it should meet your budget.

the Nvidia 6200 is about 50 bucks and handles beryl very well.
its AGP 256mb DDR2
Svideo/dvi/vga out
The one i am using is made by XFX.

Avoid the 6200's that say TC or turbocache as you will take a (rather large) hit in performance

You might be hard pressed to find the 5200 series ones listed above as they are old.
I usually always see a 6200 at best buy..

Ideally though I would throw in few more dollars and get a 6600GT card. They had a good price/performance ratio a while back and I'm sure the price is even less these days. Even a non GT will be ok but ideally for this model you want the GT.

I have a acquired a second handed MSI Geforce 4 TI4200 with 64 MB DDR. It works really very smooth in beryl. You can consider buying a second hand graphic card, there are good business out there ;)

Thanks a lot guys! My geeko friends kept recommending me cards, and I would go home to look at them to see that they were always around $100. -_-'

I decided on.. "
BIOSTAR V6202AL16 GeForce 6200A 128MB 64-bit GDDR2 AGP 4X/8X Low Profile Video Card" You know, whatever that all means
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814141051

And I have a friend who says beryl roll. Maybe he made it up to make me more jealous. He made it seem like there's this super Beryl Club that I'm not invited to. :(

Well, it worked. I spent 3 hours breaking and fixing X and now I'm getting an Nvidia card just to join the club. I'm such a guppie.

Thanks again!

He's more than likely referencing the "DO A BARRELL ROLL" meme.

Wow. I should really just buy things when I first decide on them. This was my thought process during the work day...

"Okay, my computer takes AGP, I should get AGP."
"Well, everyone is moving towards PCI."
"My computer is pretty old. I'll want to give it a major upgrade in a year or two. If I have a AGP video card, I'll have to replace it, and it'll mean it'll only get a year or two's use."

So I just bought a new motherboard, DDR2 memory (JEEZE that's expensive!) and PCI video card. Originally this was going to be a "Oh, Taxes, I'll treat myself and never know money was missing."

Now I'm missing money. But I can't wait to put it all together! Yay! Thanks guys, there were a lot of "TC" cards that I might have chosen had I not been told not to.

You may have already bought a card but; I bought an Asus Nvidia 7300GS 256MB PCI-E a couple of months ago, obviously i'm in the UK but it is a superb card and is now only £39.64.

I should have posted what mobo I got. Cause one of you would have probably figured out a way to stalk me and stop this horrible thing from happening.

At like 1 a night I woke up 'cause it was too hot in my room and I started thinking about it... and I have a 478 socket proc instead of the 775 mobo I had ordered. All plans are stopped because I don't have enough money for all of that AND a new proc. So the original plan is still going.

How depressing. :( I need like a little geek angel over my shoulder. "Uh uh uh uh... You really don't want THAT ATI Driver, do you?" "Oh, well I guess not..."

But I'll still be able to do a beryl roll! Wherever the phrase came from!
