I'm trying to find a Ubuntu lanyard but I can't find one anywhere. The Ubuntu shop doesn't carry them, none on eBay, and 40 odd pages of Google fails to give any results.

The closest I can get is a German site selling generic Linux lanyards, they're very nice but I can't understand a word on the site so I'm not too keen on placing an order.

I've even considered getting some made up, but I don't really need 100 or so.....

Any help in sourcing such a treat would be appreciated.

I would be interested in about 20 of these for friends and fam who use Ubuntu. Any idea what the associated cost might be?

Yeah, just not a fan of the extremely low quality cafepress puts out. I had a t-shirt through them that just fell apart at the seems in less than a couple years. I'll have to look into the lanyard thing to see if I may know someone local who would create the threading with custom print. The hardware would not be hard to come up with, it's just putting them together that would be time consuming.

Not sure about the price - initial searches seem to suggest that the cost would be somewhere in the region of £250 for 100.

I wonder if I could get a grant from Canonical to put these together? ;)

not to sound dumb, but what is a lanyard? I looked it up at dictionary.com and it said it was rope?

Maybe he's thinking of joining The Royal Navy? ;)

Lanyards are those necklace things from which people hang keychains and flashdrives and IDs. See: here (http://shop.sayreinc.com/artpic/t_lanyard_300_405.jpg)

It'd also be nice if they took advantage of Cafepress's black t-shirts. Though a chocolate or tan shirt would be welcome as well, given the Ubuntu colors. Remember the posters someone made? That would look nice on a shirt, if I recall correctly (can't find the darn posters to look at again though).

Cool, thanks. And yes, we need black Ubuntu tees! Though I would ware brown too. I would love to see a white logo on a black shirt.

Guess what.....

This is the first time I've ever had anything with my name in it as the first result in a Google :P

Search www.google.co.uk for Linux Lanyards :)

So back in the fall, Daller thought s/he knew someone who could do laptop sleeves, but things changed, and those couldn't happen. I was looking online for a place that would do custom ones and I came across a lot of sites where they did them handmade. That made me wonder, is anyone else here a crafty person? I sew and crochet, and I found http://www.monochrom.at/crochetication/ordereng.htm this site that has crocheted laptop sleeves. There's a DIY section of the Marketing Team. Maybe this could fall in that category?

Catsworth,
although you can't get a grant from canonical to make these, I'd recommend you make a poll in the cafe asking if people would buy them. If you find that 30 people would buy an Ubuntu lanyard, it'll start being worth it to have them made - it gets very cheap when done en masse (says the guy who's printed thousands of stickers (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=2335813) and hundreds of posters (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=1739055) ;)). You can even make some money on it - the profit on the posters and stickers combined is about $200, and I still have many, many to sell. (I don't keep the cash, BTW - I've written elsewhere (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MarketingTeam/DIYWebsite/Get/PriceListJenda) what I do with it.
