Why don't we do the same thing Mozilla did to fight Microsoft back. Oddly, I have yet to see one Firefox tv commercial.

I am thinking Canonical, Mozilla, Google, Nvidia, and some major OSS supports back a Linux (or Ubuntu) Flicks contest. It's time for some tv spots across the globe but Europe and USA mostly.

What do you think about doing a Ubuntu (or Linux) Flicks contest?

IBM ran linux tv commercials for almost a year ... it sadly didn't do much.

I remember those. I can't recall anything "Linux" about them these days though I remember the actor who played Captain Sisko was in them. But thanks for posting them aysiu--it'll be interesting to see how my memory of them holds up..

SAN FRANCISCO, California (IDG) -- IBM Corp.'s latest server advertisements talk about peace and love, but one part of its campaign has set it on a collision course with city officials here.

Through its ad agency, IBM has spray-painted advertisements for its servers on the sidewalks at dozens of street corners throughout San Francisco, from the high-tech nexus known as South of Market to the historic crossroads at Haight and Ashbury, where die-hard hippies panhandle for change.

City officials weren't impressed.

The ads were created with a stencil and what looks like black spray paint, and feature three simple icons: a peace symbol, a heart, and a smiling, chubby penguin -- longtime mascot of the Linux operating system, which runs on some of IBM's servers.

I think the best commercial linux can have it's from the community...us, the users. tell others, talk to everyone who has the time and wants to listen and maybe after 100 attempts you'll get one or two converts into new linux users ( even this means dual-booting, it's still a step forward)

I think MS does that job (http://www.linuxpersonas.com/) by themselves :)
