I started an irc channel as well ...

It is on freenode at #ubuntu-montana

Come on by if you like, although the channel has not seen much traffic as of yet :)

If you run across any others from Montana ~ invite 'em to the forum.

I grew up in Helena, Winston, and York - moved east a few years ago however. :(

I do get back on occasion to visit family, and would love to visit a loco meeting when I'm there!

Mark another one down for Billings! ;)

Actually, I'm living in Rexburg, ID for right now, but like MontanaMax, I visit family there occasionally.

Ubuntu's on two dual-booted computers, my laptop and my wifes desktop. And although she doesn't use it very often, I love my Ubuntu environment! I'm looking forward to Fiesty!

I feel I should put my latest desktop screenie here:

Hi all Montana Ubuntu-ites... I think it's neat that we have a variety of cities from Montana reprsented! :D

SendDerek, might I inquire if you are in Rexberg for school? If so, I know several people who are there as well ;)

March 23rd, 2007, 01:45 AM
Yup! Just like you said, pikestaff, I'm here in Rexburg going to school at BYU-Idaho. Hopefully I'll be getting my Electrical and Computer Engineering degree in the next 2 years! Thanks for "inquire-ing"!

Nice to see all the Montana users. Lets see if we can organize into a more cohesive group.

Just popping in to say hi from Billings.

Hope to chat more with you all on the IRC.

Hello from Butte. Been messing with Linux for some years now, but not much more than a novice. Just installed Ubuntu on a dual core AMD machine that I built over the winter. Pretty anti-climactic. It just worked. No bloodshed, no profanity, no command line. I go to the Helena LUG meetings most of the time, having grown up there. (Nice to visit mom once in a while). Just attended my first Bozeman LUG meeting this month. First contact with MSU computing since Xerox Sigma 7 and punch cards. TTFN

Yea the Bozeman LUG is awesome. Hope to make to one of their meetings in the near future. We have a LUG in Helena as well, although it is not as active.

Feel free to come on by our irc (you will recognize some of the LUG group there as well).

Just adding myself to the list of Ubuntanans. ;-) Yoyoyo, from Zootown.

I managed to finally make the switch to Linux exclusively a little over a year ago, and switched to Ubuntu as my primary distro several months ago. Just made a new Dell Vostro 1700 laptop my pirmary hardware and have Feisty running nicely on it. Looking forward to meeting other Linux users in Missoula and around Montana.

I had to jump through some hoops to get it all running, as I expected, but I'm quite satisfied at the moment. It's unfortunate that getting linux, even Ubuntu, running on newer hardware is still often a complex task and not for the faint of heart. I guess that's why we need local groups of activists willing to help those who are willing to take the plunge.

Five months after March cluster...Aug. Also in Missoula.
Ubuntu 5.04 to 6.06 in 3 other machines and found ubu-mso while looking for solution to unsuccessful Wubi install on 4th machine. woul like to pick up the phone and call a local, or answer a call from a local. Which irc client is best ... have never been into it. Probably a good next step.

Well, I'll be jiggered. There are other Ubuntu folks in Montana.

I am trying to get Ubuntu up but haven't got the modem running yet. When that happens MS is gone.

I am a ranch hand in the Otter area. This is S.E. Montana. It would be nice to discover someone else from this area. Most of the population does not use computers. Not really cow friendly.
