well today i was in my local books a million and the book i had heard so much about was there, "Linux Desktop Hacks". anyway as I was reading the index to get an idea of what the book covered it dawned on me that nearly all of the stuff excluding kde tricks, was already available for free on the forums, so umm do you think the guy copied the forums or did our members post what they read, or is it a coincidence. i vote for the later

i imagine a bit off both. i think you would have a hard time tracking down an original source for any of them.

the value of the oreilly hacks books is more that the hack are collected and tested rather than completely new. i am sure most of it could be found in the official doc, forums, wikis, irc chats, etc. but there is stuff in there that i did not know was possible, so i would never have thought to search for it.
