Received from KiwiNZ:

You have received an infraction at Ubuntu Forums.

2296423

Reason: Insulted Other Member(s)
-------
Those who belive in faith have the right to do so with out your insults
-------

I said nothing about anyone's "right to believe". Nobody's name was mentioned. Nobody posted back with any disagreement (the next post was actually a ringing endorsement).

Do I not have a right to an opinion on the matter? Does having an opinion which may disagree with another's opinion constitute an insult? Are opinions not what the Backyard is all about?

Enquiring minds wish to know!!

You very directly insinuated that people who have faith in a deity eschew reality, and you implied that they have chosen not to grow up.

That is an insult. I wholeheartedly support KiwiNZ in this matter.

I would (and do) find it difficult to respect those who eschew reality in favor of faith. Have they chosen not to grow up? To what end?

I think the end they desire is a pass on responsibility. If they have an "invisible sky guy" to blame things on, their work is made easier.

Please check the context of the quote (vis-a-vis the quote I posted, and was responding to). That post insinuated the same. I merely gave my response and one possible explanation. This is not allowed? Shall I go through the Backyard and report all posts that meet this (rather low) standard of "insult"?

In addition, I submit this:

I voted the main forum is fine but things could be eased up in the Backyard. I'm not saying we let anything go, but the Backyard is the Backyard. You don't have to see it, and you know anything posted in there is probably controversial and/or offensive in some way.

(emphasis mine)

It is therefore reasonable to assume that the standards for "offensive" or "insulting" should be relaxed within the confines of the Backyard, as stated by one of your own mods. While I do not concede that the post was insulting at all, given this stance of relaxed standards, that it cannot possibly be expected that everyone will like everthing that anyone may say there. This seems like arbitrary enforcement.

Without a context for Aysiu's quote I can't tell you whether it was written before last month's Backyard rules update (which was done in a very public way with multiple opportunities for people to give their input). I would guess it is an older quote.

The rules for the Backyard have been updated and as of the February Forums Council meeting the standards of behavior and speech in the Backyard are NOT lower than in the rest of the forums. The only difference is a greater amount of leeway in the subject matter. I'll go ahead and quote the updated rules here for your convenience.

The Backyard is intended for everything not related to Ubuntu or fitting for the Cafe. This could include discussions of religion, politics and other topics that would be inappropriate in the more technical areas of the Ubuntu Forums and that don't really fit the more whimsical, lighthearted nature of the Cafe. You are free to express your thoughts and disagree with other forum members, However:

1. *ALL* posts and replies must be polite and courteous. You are never free to degrade, demean, humiliate, provoke and/or attack other forum members, ethnic groups or political groups, etc.
2. The Forums and Ubuntu Codes of Conduct will each be applied here and must be followed.
3. If you are easily offended this forum is not for you. People that post here have opinions and will share them. However, rules #1 and 2 always apply.
4. If you feel any thread or post violates the rules of The Backyard, please use the report post function or contact a moderator/administrator via private message. Do not attempt to moderate yourself and please do not confront another user on their behavior.

What we are aiming for in all interaction in the Backyard is a free flow of thoughts, opinions, and ideas in a polite and courteous manner. Polite means, "Marked by or showing consideration for others, tact, and observance of accepted social usage." Courteous means, "Characterized by gracious consideration toward others."

Finally, in the event a *Moderator* or *Administrator* finds a violation of the rules in this forum, either on their own or while investigating a reported post, they have the power to do any combination of the following using their best judgment:
a. Remove or edit the post.
b. Send the post to the jail.
c. Lock the thread.
d. Give the author of the post an infraction point or multiple points.
e. Ban the user.
When in doubt staff should refer decisions for discussion by posting in the staff forums before taking action.
Decisions can be appealed in the Resolution Center, although if there is a clear violation of any part of the codes of conduct decisions will be automatically upheld.
We encourage you to follow these simple rules, so everyone can enjoy this off topic area of Ubuntu Forums. If the rules are violated this section will be moderated to enforce the rules mentioned above.I really don't have anything further to add to the previous comments already given you regarding your posts and the infractions you received for them. After looking further into your posting history, I am convinced all ten of the infraction points you have received in the last 13 days were deserved.
