Okay , it may be a very difficult job for nVidia to release their drivers as open source...but whats the harm in that ? They provide it for free neways and they dont get paid so why are they being dumb monkeys and not releasing either proper LInux Drivers or Open Source Drivers ?

They don't provide it for free really, it is included in the cost of your graphics card. This is why you will often find that driver support for a 3d card only lasts about 2 generations. After that they can't recover the costs of driver support.

open drivers would change that. I think it might be beneficial to them as someone else could work on the code for old cards. but maybe it would make people want to upgrade less.

Why a BSD license? So that Intel and AMD/ATI can take all that info and close it up?

This is why they won't open source the drivers.

Just donate or provide dumps of your Nvidia cards to Nouveau, it's in the announcement sticky. They're making open source 3d drivers. http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=357369
