I just sent a request to join the mailing list, but I'll probably spend more time here, or in the IRC.
Winter Park (Orlando) FL here. My stepkids live in Lakeland.
One of my goals is to start a Central Florida FreeGeek (http://freegeek.org/) chapter/franchise, and use Ubuntu.
Glad to see Florida getting in on progress.

Hello All:
Just found out that we have a forum, I guess this is part of the whole "LoCo" team setup. In reference to the mail that I sent to our list a couple of days ago. I would like to know if any one would like to help me out in putting together a flyer to post "around town" for our group.
Our flyer should be something cool not something that looks like an engineering specification. Of course it must have our nice Florida LoCo Group logo, how to join our group and ways to contact us.
A lot of the people that I have showed the Ubuntu leaflet too have liked the Ubuntu Concept of humanity to others, this is a good sell and also should be included in the text.

Hello, fellow geeks in FL. \\:D/
@ the person living in Lakeland. Gasp. I'll be attending college at Florida Southern [Located in Lakeland] soon. Where ever I go, massive LAN parties follow. Get ready. :KS
To spread the flavor of Ubuntu around the world I suggest that Internet Cafe's are opened, and with the 'house' pc's being solely Ubuntu powered machines. Once people get a taste of such grand flavor, they'll begin inquiring about it. I see massive pamphlet distribution in the future... :o
Anyway, just saying 'Hi'.

Rex--
I work right next to FL Southern, and my boss' wife is the head of the nursing dept there.
Get your crazy self in our launchpad, mailing list, and IRC!
Do it now!
And I was also thinking of a local freegeek chapter, since I have a huge interest in distributing ubuntu (or its variants, since I love me some kubuntu). Nixternal knows something about these, and the details in setting them up.
C'mon those of you not in our mailer and launchpad teams! Come join us!
Chris, resident harasser.

If you guys would like I can work on a FL team logo.

Lando already designed us one (the one located on our wiki and launchpad pages) but if you would, any other ideas would be welcome too (if it is ok with Lando, of course).
Have you joined our mailing list yet?

We could use a cool flyer for our group, using our logo with the state of Florida within the Ubuntu Icon. then I would be happy to print them ( with my color laser printer ) and post them around Brevard and East Orange.

The following information should be worked into the text of the flyer:
1) The Ubuntu Concept of "Linux for People" and "humanity to others"
2) That Everyone is welcome in the group, including people that never used Ubuntu before.
3) That's it's easy to join, and of course how to join (sign up at Ubuntu.com)
4) Anything Else ????

im not exactly a great writer.
i grabbed this off the website
What is Ubuntu?
Ubuntu is a community developed, linux-based operating system that is perfect for laptops, desktops and servers. It contains all the applications you need - a web browser, presentation, document and spreadsheet software, instant messaging and much more.
i think making it a mini FAQ would be a good idea
what is the florida team.
how can i get ubuntu
how can i join
if anyone would like to answer those questions for me and maybe add a few more that would be great. I have the flyer all done up i just gotta throw some text on

Take a look at the ubuntu poster:

The message on the poster is what open source is all about, also another link with some bonus info:

I remember there was a Poster someone made a while back.
someone already linked it http://diy.devubuntu.com/repo/spreadubuntu/DIY%20Material/Batch%201,%20Posters/HanZo/poster-layout.jpg
We can find the source PDF file (I might have it) and have some posters made up.
