It'ś amazing...
Just the other day, I noticed that members passed the quarter mill mark.
About the same time I noticed about 1500 new members in about 2 days.
And just now about 500 in half a day...

This growth rate is incredible.
Congratulations to everybody working on and with Ubuntu.

I also bet a lot of the Windows users are people who are curious about switching to Ubuntu and are doing their research first... I lurked the forums for quite a while before I made the switch myself because I wanted to have a good idea of what I was doing :)

Neat stats, thanks for sharing!

How does the reporting of the browsers work?

Does it report the rest of the 4% as "other" or does it actually give a breakdown on each reported identity?

Does anything using gecko or xul report the same? So if a user is browsing with Epiphany which is using the same gecko as Firefox does it get reported the same?

Does the report tool use the browsers reported user agent or does it do deeper detection?

Usage stats are interesting.

It's really interesting what is sent and not. I mostly use Firefox because it works on most sites, but it also seems to be the most blabby of the two. If I can remember I'll check with IE7 later just to see what it says.

It's also interesting how Firefox reports Ubuntu-Feisty and Konqueror reports Kubuntu.

I think part of the high Windows surfing numbers come from people like me, who have to use Windows at work but still surf, and my laptop is Ubuntu but my desktop is still Vista and I typically have them side by side while surfing so I can have instructions on how to do things on the big screen.

You may already be aware, but you can get a "User Agent Switcher" extension for firefox, to make it less blabby.

Thanks for the info!!

Now, about the high percentage of Windows and Internet Explorer in the statistics I could say that some of this are window users that are curious about Ubuntu or people planning a switch. But, I think, a large number are also ubuntu users that access the forums from their work or other public PCs, like university computers.

At work, or other places, you use a PC where most of the time, a Windows Operating System is installed and in many cases you are not even given the option to use a web browser different from Internet Explorer.

It is very impressive that the number of members of the forum have reached the quarter of a million levels and for sure is one of the biggest forums on the internet. Forums from other Windows (or at least cross platform) very successful software products, like Skype, do not manage to have so many members.

Maybe an Operating System, like Ubuntu, is more complex than a program like Skype, and you would need the help of the forum more, but for sure the statistics reflect the great success of Ubuntu these last 3 years.

I wish when we celebrate the 5 years of Ubuntu the members of the forum to be more than 1 million and the Ubuntu users in the world to be counted in the many many tenths of millions!

The days around Feisty Release (April, 19th) this forum will be overcrowded. This happened to Edgy release, not to talk about Dapper - because of the 2 additional months waiting.
The feeling was great - everyone posted messages, asked questions etc. The forum became a gigantic dynamic city, full of life!
