Guys, i want to remaster Xubuntu. My aim is to cut the fat out of xubuntu completely and install software like qtparted, a good cd burning app, etc. i want to make a boot dvd with a tiny version of xubuntu in it. (the DVD will be multisession and will NOT be finalized) after the disc is in the system, all available drives will be mounted and the user can backup all the data that they want onto the "slim-xubuntu-backup" dvd itself!

of course the computer will require a dvd burner and this is a pretty huge project but i do believe that it can be done. is anybody here with me?

I am located in san francisco. Lets get a group together to meet up and get this thing rolling over coffee.

I think that this may be what you are looking for:

UCK - Ubuntu Customization Kit

UCK is a tool that helps you customizing official Ubuntu Live CDs (including Kubuntu/Xubuntu and Edubuntu) to your needs. You can add any package to the live system, for example language packs, or applications.

http://uck.sourceforge.net/

I just happened to be looking around the other Local Group Forums and saw your post. Our Group (FLorida) is also thinking about customizing the Ubuntu CD Distrbutions.

Try Remastersys (Website http://www.remastersys.com/)

Very nice and simple remastering system. Also easy to use on the command line.
