How about Groovy Grilse?

The release names for ubuntu have been discussed several times in the cafe, and there is a Grumpy Groundhog version. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DevelopmentCodeNames?highlight=%28names%29

My suggestion: idiotic iguana

Grumpy Groundhog is kind of like the trunk of Ubuntu. It's just a dumping ground for code...it's never stable. Ever. It's not a periodic release like the others, and most people don't even know about it...but it does have a codename, so we can't name Feisty +1 G... G... .

I could see Improving Ian getting a LOT of press attention on sites like Slashdot. Debian already doesn't like us too much, they would take that name offensively.

Ian is the name of the man behind Debian, is it not?

Improving Ian, taken as Improving upon Debian, implying Ubuntu is better than Debian. The developers would take that as a bash

So, it's essentially what the Feisty testers (like me) are using right now, and if I decide to not stop off at stable Feisty, I'd be staying on Grumpy Groundhog? I'm not really intending to stop at Feisty and wait for the next one. I like getting to play with the new toys ^_^

Not really like Feisty...Feisty is more polished and finished than Grumpy. Grumpy is just a collection of the latest CVS builds at any given time. It's just a dumping ground for code, and there's no effort made to clean it up. It's not even an actual release...it doesn't actually exist...it's just a codename given to the collective bleeding edge code at any given point.

Feisty is when some of that code gets finished and gets implemented into a working system.

If they decide on an G:

Grinning Goat
Groovy Gibbon
Gallant Gazelle

If they want an I instead:

Impressive Impala
Incredible Iguana
Itchy Insect

It'll be fun to see if the chosen name will actually be from the wiki page.

Iguana's taken up by Suse (Okay, that's a chameleon, but they look relatively similar, can't have that). Will have to be a different mascot. :P

I like Grandiose Gazelle though, flashy but not without calibre (well-polished UI), light and nimble (runs faster than other distros), elegant (very smooth usage experience), junglish (goes with the African brown idea), and non-carnivorous (absolutely user friendly, won't bite).

Don't they first have to decide on goals for the next release? I was under the impression that goals determined the codename. For instance, Edgy Eft was supposed to introduce some new, unstable technologies. Feisty Fawn focuses on cosmetics and the maturation of some features. So, I think they'll choose their codename based on whatever the goals and aspirations for the next release are.
