Is there one? As in something like RM2K?

If so, give me a link. And talk about it if you've seen it/used it.

In short, I am not aware of any ports or equivalents to RPG Maker (I used to love RPG Maker 2K). he closest that comes to mind is Game Editor:

After searching for a while, the closest thing I could find for Linux is RPGds. It has a linux release, although it's pre-beta, but it looks very promising. Hope this helps!

There's a little thing I like to call Python awaiting you.
Or maybe try your hand at C/C++. And you can make a ton of stuff, not just RPG's!

yeah but some of us are looking for something simple that we could bang out a OK game in a weekend. frankly every time I try to code a game its not as much fun. (both the game and making it)

Pretty old topic, yes, but just for reference take a look at

Not like RPG maker, but almost close ;-) Had a python port, which died eventually... :-(

RPG Maker RTP doesn't work in wine. So even if you make a game in wine, you won't be able to run it in wine.

KQ is a pretty high level RPG Game engine.

When Stencyl comes out it should have an RPG kit, if that helps.

me too

How do you get the RTP to work though? Whenever I try to play an RPG Maker XP game, it fails to start, giving an error about DirectSound.

Python with pygame. Learn something proper, not something pretend.

Never for me, sorry. This was with Wine 1.1.x development releases.

HamsterRepublic seems good, not used it (or even attempted) yet just looked at the screen shots.

KQ looks more like a game than a kit.

Oh and C++ is hard! ...well not as hard as Haskell or Java but still <_<; Not that I'm not trying to learn them all. (Ah university life is hard).

Any other suggestions for a RPG maker, or something to help make more games for Linux.

Sorry :(.

The main ika guy quit and destroyed ika with it. I wasn't allowed to take it over. So I took the source code and started a new project called nya, but due to personal problems I keep being unmotivated to finish a working engine and mapmaker.

:(

I'll take a look at it again later today.

You may want to try RPGds. It has a clean GUI and allows you to pretty much do everything RPG Maker does. It needs a bit of code know-how, but it should be pretty simple to pick up once you fiddle with it.

It DOES have a native linux client by the way. When you export a game, it will only allow you to export for the Windows platform I believe. Fortunately, the executable you have is portable, as in, the DLLs required will be exported when you export the game.

Maker3D is a powerfull 3D RPG maker environment.

The software is designed to provide user-friendly and familiar RPG creation tool for the maker-community. Software offers an easy, self-documenting clickable/writable scripting system based on BASIC programming language. With chipset and tileset based map editing, you can easilly create the universe for your game. To use the application, no programming skills needed. Maker3D ships with large built-in content, including tilesets, chipsets, monsters, avatars. Everything, you need.

Select-and-click based level edition

Just select a model from the left list by clicking with the mouse, and click on the map. Its so simple to create your rooms, cityes, houses, caves. Select a pen, and paint your ground. Select a texture, and change the ground tiles. Just like in the old 2d rpg maker softwares, Maker3D offers an easy editor system to create your maps within minutes. You need more than the built-in chipset and tilesets? No problem! You can also add your own content. Maker3D offers support for the most popular modell, object and texture formats, including .3ds, .obj, .c, .jpg, .bmp, .tga

Built-in character creator wizzard

Select the hair fashion, select the panties, select socks, shoes, gloves, etc... In Maker3D, you can just simply click together your heroes, NPC-s, and enemies. You can simple add your textures too, and the finished models does not needed to be exported: they just work. You viewing the characters in real time while you editing them, you can rotate them with the mouse, and check them from multiple directions.

Easy script/event editing

You can place your scripts on the world map, and you can simply write them. You not need to learn Maker3D-s syntax: just click on the command! For example, to create a script wich loads a modell, just click on the command LOAD_MODELL, select a modell from the pop-upping content browser, then point on a location on the world map. You can use variables, cycles... FOR, IF, you can build up your scripts with the help of the famous BASIC programming language. After you click or type a command, the command's syntax appears, and a tiny example that shows the working of the specified command. You can place up to 80 script on a map: they will executed parallelly! Almost 100 scripting command: text writing, messaging, sound handlig, everything you need!

Built-in battle system

Maker3D has built in HP / MP / Item / Magic / Attack / Block based, turn-based traditional JRPG battle system. You can add up to 4 hero and 4 enemy to the current battle. You can handle the battle system easilly from the script-system. Running a battle will not even break the other running scripts on the map. Add your heroes, monsters to the battle system, and enjoy the battle with the epic battlecamera system!

Well, that definitely makes it more difficult to sell to Linux users, huh?

It's not free.

Holy effin cow, it is only 8EUR which is around $10USD.

RPG Maker XP/VX/VXace is like $60USD and is only 2D and only runs on Windows.

Really? We need more applications like this. Priced way too low and available. I mean come on, who gives a rat's behind if it isn't free? If you want free go make one and give it away. Honestly almost every free project aside from Linux and a few things, I can't name five decent free apps. They are ok at best, viva la non-free affordable applications!

in the FAQ
Q. Is AGS available for Linux?
A. There is an official Linux (Intel x86) port of the game engine, which can run AGS games created with v2.5 and later. You can find it on the Download page. There is currently no Linux version of the game editor - one may be created if there is enough demand for it.
