I think it is a support group for all those who are addicted to Ubuntu, because I know I am :-p.

Nah, I think it's for users of Ubuntu in the same area to get together. Something like that... I'm new...

Well to quote the official LoCoTeams page (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LoCoTeams):
Ever since the birth of computers, enthusiasts and fans around the world have collected together in garages, universities and pubs to talk about their interest, learn from each other and help promote their interest. Combine this with the huge popularity of Ubuntu, and you have the Ubuntu LoCo project.

This basically means that we are a group of people who are enthusiasts and fans of Ubuntu who get together in various places (mainly IRC (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/NewYorkTeam/IRC) right now) to talk and learn from each other about Ubuntu, and promote the use of Ubuntu to other people as well.

Our mission statement as mentioned on our wiki's main page (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/NewYorkTeam) is:
The New York Team focuses on distributing, advertising, and demonstrating the Ubuntu OS within the state of New York. We work with all types of users including business, educational, and home users. We believe that by bringing the freedom, power, and stability of Ubuntu Linux (and other FOSS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FOSS)) to the public we can change the face of computing in New York for the better.

It is fairly easy to join our team and membership is open to everyone. If you are interested in joining our great team you can check out the Members page (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/NewYorkTeam/Members) of our wiki for information on joining.

Very cool. Thank you for clearing that up for me. I plan to check out the wiki and possibly pop on to IRC. Is the group only for the city or is it for the whole of NY? Since I am in upstate New York.

Update: Never mind, I just found the answer.

yharrow.. you're a very good recruiter I must say. You got me to sign up today while on IRC, and you're getting people to sign up from the forums. Soon everyone in New York will join.

BTW, we should get some of the Google guys to join, Gubuntu being as cool as it is.
