Just wanted to start a simple little thread to discuss what you think are the coolest and goofiest names for Linux and BSD distros. The following are my thoughts:

I have tried quite a few Linux distros and found these to be;

The goofiest of Linux distro names are:

Fried Chicken Linux (http://linuxlab.dk/fcl/)

CHAINSAWLINUX (http://www.chainsawlinux.com/)

Tinfoil Hat Linux (http://tinfoilhat.shmoo.com/)

The coolest names are:

Wolvix (http://wolvix.org/)

GoblinX (http://www.goblinx.com.br/en/)

Morphix (http://www.morphix.org/)

The coolest BSD distro names are:

The Dark Star (http://thedarkstar.openfmi.net/en/home.html)

MidnightBSD (http://www.midnightbsd.org/)

DragonflyBSD (http://www.dragonflybsd.org/)

The goofiest BSD distro names are:

Ging (http://glibc-bsd.alioth.debian.org/ging/)

Quetzal (http://quetzal.matem.unam.mx/)

Brighton Chilli (http://brightonchilli.geeklan.co.uk.nyud.net:8080/)

Of course this is my opinion, what do you think the coolest and goofiest names are?

EDIT: The "Evil" Linux line up:

Devil-Linux (http://www.devil-linux.org/)

Sorcerer (http://sorcerer.silverice.org/)

Source Mage (http://www.sourcemage.org/)

DeadCD (http://64.233.179.104/translate_c?hl=en&sl=zh-CN&u=http://wiki.lupaworld.com/index.php/DeadCD&prev=/search%3Fq%3DDeadCD%2Blinux%26hl%3Den) (no longer active but Dead, this link is just a vague reference to the DeadCD)

I always thought that Debian, Ubuntu, and Gentoo sounded the coolest. Lindows, Linspire, PCOSLinux are the goofiest.

Debian is undoubtedly the coolest noun.

Slackware is funny. It's sounds like a line of clothing for slovenly people.

I thought Ubuntu was a funny name for a distro until I understood what the word ubuntu actually meant, kinda cool!

I think Yopper, Mepis, Freesbie (http://www.freesbie.org/), and Linspire are goofy names.

I think SymphonyOS is one of those cool names, as well as DragonLinux (http://dragonlinux.sourceforge.net/) (of which it appears they are gone)

I really was hoping DragonLinux would work out. I love dragons and gargoyles. Would have been neat to say that I use an OS that is a dragon to go along with my dragon/gargoyle collection.

Maybe I'll start my own Linux distro called GargoyleLinux:lolflag:

I just found Fire Dragon Linux (http://linux.fdragon.org/) too! No screenshots though. Still looks to be in early stages.

As far as coolness goes, there's just no competing with Slackware.

PCLinuxOS is perhaps the most awkwardly sounding name, together with gNewSense. What were they thinking?

Most poorly chosen name ever: gNewSense. (nuisance)

What they were thinking. from the gnewsense.org FAQ section:

4. Why the name gNewSense?
The name originated as Gnusiance as a reference to RMS's GPG key, but was later changed to gNewSense by bbrazil and ompaul to also capture the New Sense of the distribution and as a pun on GNU.

5. How do you pronounce gNewSense?
There is no definitive pronunciation, but guh-NEW-sense is preferred.

What they were thinking. from the gnewsense.org FAQ section:

They were just trying to cover up the fact that they completely overlooked how most English speaking peoples would pronounce (and interpret) it.

Hey, you gotta love the ZenWalk. I think I invented the real ZenWalk, pretty much like Jacko invented the Moonwalk.

There was this time I was installing ZenWalk on an old laptop, I went to the kitchen to grab myself a cup'o coffee, tripped on the way back, spilled the coffee all over myself, put my knee to the floor and got up on one go, without really caring because we and the Universe are One, everything, everywhere, anytime is in motion and I was aware of that in each and every moment: that's the ZenWalk.

Goofiest name... hands down: PuppyLinux. The reasons behind the name are *cute* and all, but the name has steered more people clear of it than anything else, it just doesn't seem credible, seems more like a pet project (pun intended).

I also love Wolvix as a distro name, but that may have something to do with the fact that I love wolves enough to have one tattooed on my neck.

Also, great names that really suit what the distros are all about: FeatherLinux (unfortunately and probably extinct, since no updates in a LOOOOONG time) and Damn Small Linux.

i like 'wolvix', but that's about it. distro names, like song lyrics, are 99.9% retarded. and, i hate to say it, 'ubuntu' is one of the worst. it not only sounds stupid, it feels stupid to say it. so, what's in a name? meh.

What they were thinking. from the gnewsense.org FAQ section:

They probably named it gNewSense because it has a g. G meaning Gangsta, so gangsta meaning cool.

It looks like Wolvix is getting a lot of votes for the coolest distro name, it actually happens to be one of the best distros also, as far as just being put together right, with the right amount of reliability, speed, and minimalistic beauty...and everything simply working.

Vector Linux is easily my favorite distro name.

I wouldn't use something called "Lindows" even if it came with free gold coins.
