It fixes security and stability bugs. Really no reason to get excited about it and start a thread.

When the # changes from a 2 to a 3 then we get excited. Nevertheless, I wouldn't have known about this for ages so thanks for informing us. Its always good to get up to date. Hope my firefox won't crash every few hours. :)

Thanks for the update, I think I would rather wait until it is in the repos, I don't want to have to keep track of all the software I updated manually (none so far).

A bug fix for one of the most popular Linux desktop applications that, by the way, is currently not so stable? That IS very deserving of a new thread.

FF isn't stable ? I did not notice it, off to launchpad to see what did I miss.
I like the posts that it became faster, every time something comes out, opera, FF or a new release someone posts it is faster, still my feisty bootcharts show the same time as edgy...

can someone (or how difficult is it to do?) PLEASE convert the .tar.bz2 of Firefox 2.0.0.2 to a .deb and either attach it or upload it somewhere...it would be greatly appreciated as i always mess up when trying to update apps from something in the repos to a tar file i got off the apps' site...thanks

i would seriously just wait for the bug fix. It will be in the repos in 1 week or maybe a little longer. And not to mention if you install firefox from the offical site you break the default browser thing and most links that you click wont do anything anymore.

Just auto updated, looks good.

Neer used repo firefox, the version numbers sometimes stop addons from working. :)

what do you mean by "auto updated"?

what do you mean by "auto updated"?

as in running

gksudo firefox

and then going to help > check for updates

this will make firefox update to the latest version, but the version number in synaptic will still be whatever version it was before you upgraded.

once again, this might break some things, so i think its best to just wait till the repos get updated :D

/ME is confused. This is not working for me. I have closed firefox, gone to terminal and entered gksudo firefox and the update option is still greyed out. What gives? Polly be in repos by the time I figure out how to update the thing. Took me days to get OOo updated.

That's because the other member installed Firefox from the Mozilla site. Whereas you and I and many others install/update it through the repos. That is why this feature is greyed out. Just have some patience and a Firefox update will be available in the repos soon :)

It is? That would be a nice thing.

Do you get the same speed difference with the mozilla.com build of 2.0.0.1? Because it could be the Ubuntu builds or it could be the new release. (Not saying Ubuntu's bad at making builds or anything, but this way it's clear whether it's actually faster.)

Since Linux is my public face to the internet, I want my install of Ubuntu to be as bullet proof as possible. I use only what's in the repositories. Whatever version is there, is the one I'll be using. I don't care if it's not at the "cutting edge" as long as it works.

Hi guys!

I'm using Dapper Drake. It comes with Firefox 1.5. I've downloaded the 2.0.0.2 Firefox version and "untared" it to my home directory. But I can't install it right away. Should I remove the "old" Firefox Directory? How can I change the old version by the new one? Can you help me please?

Not available for dapper yet, as far as I can tell. I also get gzip errors when running apt-get update. Edgy is available. Since dapper is LTS, don't understand why they wouldn't take care of it first. Or maybe there is just a problem with the builds for dapper.

FF 2.0.0.2 seems somewhat buggy on Edgy. When opening a new web page, FF refuses to update the page. It shows the previous web page although the browser title has changed to the new page. Sometimes it only shows the new page after resizing the browser.

Anyone else have this problem?

OK, updates for dapper online now, installed, seems to work fine.
