Stendhal (http://arianne.sourceforge.net/?arianne_url=games/game_stendhal) is pretty good I'm looking forward to playing it more soon as I get a stable Internet connection.

I once played pimpwar.com a browser based game. But very rude game and it is not fair :)
I can not recommend it but it is the only browser game i can come up with.
The game itself is kinda intresting besides the game "theme", you need luck, time and timing and a good group to success. Its relativly realistic though you play a pimp and people will just destroy your game for fun (Yes they can) :) Thts why many play each mont a diffrent nickname.
And thts why i stopped as pure skill is not enough you need much luck with other players who likly try to stop you while sacrificeing themself.

WARNING: shameless plug ahead!

I've been working on a browser-based RPG in my free time for several months now. It's definitely in a playable state right now, but it's quite unfinished. There's quite a bit of development yet to do, but registration is open (and of course free). I'd love for people to go ahead and check it out and provide some feedback.

Pioneers of Aethora (http://aethora.com/) (http://aethora.com/)

From the About Page (http://docs.aethora.com/about) (http://docs.aethora.com/about):

"Pioneers of Aethora is a web-based turn-based strategy role-playing game. Feel free to call it a lame attempt at a rip-off of Final Fantasy Tactics, Might and Magic, Battle for Wesnoth, etc, etc. Well, those are some influences, anyway. Also, it’s web-based, so … there."

"I like the idea of a game that you can pop into for a few minutes, play a little, and walk away from at any time. The combat system in Pioneers of Aethora is completely turn-based, and because of that, you can walk away from the game in the middle of a battle, go do something else for a while, walk up to another computer, log in, and pick up where you left off."

What works:
- character/party creation
- combat (pretty much fully working)

Experimentally Working:
- player-based market
- missions/quests (although I still need to write more content, the system is in place)

Planned:
- player crafting/labor/etc
- player-to-player communication/collaboration

(more details here: http://docs.aethora.com/about/future-features )

END SHAMELESS PLUG
