Microsoft Takes a Page From the Open-Source Playbook Linked by Thom Holwerda (http://www.osnews.com/editor.php?editors_id=11) on 2007-02-11 15:43:13 UTC Microsoft has long held a skeptical view of open source, but the Redmond-based software company is trying to change some of those attitudes with the establishment of officelabs. officelabs is a new internal start-up that is attempting to use some of the methodologies of open-source software development (http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20070209-8809.html) to invigorate the company and generate excitement about new Microsoft products. Specifically, the people behind officelabs want to adopt the 'release early, release often' approach that has worked well for open-source projects such as Linux and Firefox.http://www.osnews.com/story.php/17233/Microsoft-Takes-a-Page-From-the-Open-Source-Playbook

"the people behind officelabs want to adopt the 'release early, release often' approach".. Well, I wonder how's that going to end, when they have troubles making their software fairly stable and bug-free even with long release cycles...

Probably they will release new versions after less significant updates.

Ballmer may have something to say about that:

Microsoft using open source's strategies?
Release early and often? Would this mean $400 products coming out twice a year?

Microsoft sure is getting strange.

I dont think the peeps at Microsoft are so dumb , they know if they release their versions quickly (like Ubuntu)
1)It WONT be stable.
2)It will cost a lotta money!!!!
3)It will force people to convert to Open source instead of CLosed source bull$hit becuz i dont think ne1 except BIll gates and some guys will be able to afford windows version.
4)It will give a high high boost to piracy of Microsoft Windows + CLosed source software (As if there isnt enuf already , lol)

Just my views :D
