I've read a little... And I get that you guys are trying to promote Ubuntu in Ohio... And I happen to be a resident in the great state of Ohio (on the edge of Dayton)!

How can I help? What kind of stuff do you do?

I have some programming skills... Anywhere this can help?

Did you read the two stickies at the top of that subforum?

You said that you had read a little, but not what, so sorry if you already read those. :)

I just read those actually... Actually, I JUST found this forum and learn that there was an Ohio Team... I'm about to join, I'm just curious what all it implies. It seems like passing out CD's is a large part of it. Anything else?

Face to Face support and Linux education are some other areas that we are focusing on right now.

OK, I joined the launchpad. How do I become a part of things? Where can I get CD's to distribute? How can I know when/where local events will take place?

Basically, I want to help... Where should I start?

To start participating in the Ohio Team, try reading through the descriptions of our different subteams and joining the one which best suits your skills. We have several subteams:

Communication Team (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/OhioTeam/CommunicationTeam)
Web Team (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/OhioTeam/WebTeam)
Wiki Team (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/OhioTeam/WikiTeam)
Marketing Team (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/OhioTeam/MarketingTeam)
Education Team (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/OhioTeam/EducationTeam)
New User Team (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/OhioTeam/NewUserTeam)

Concerning CDs: Right now we are working on becoming an approved LoCo Team, which means, among other great things, that we will get 500 CDs of every new release. If you have some CDs now, or think you can get some, try looking on the Marketing Team page for more details on CD distribution. We are trying to draw up some extra materials we could distribute with our CDs so that new users are not left dangling without support. We mostly distribute CDs to local libraries, coffee shops, small computer stores, etc.

Concerning events: We are still working on planning a Fiesty release party for the seperate regions of Ohio (central, NE, NW, NW, and maybe SE). As of now I think that is the only event we are planning for.

Also feel free to join us for weekly team meetings. Meetings are a great way to meet (almost) everyone and see how a LoCo Team works behind the scenes. We meet on IRC (#ubuntu-ohio on irc.freenode.net) every Wednesday at 8pm EST.

Thanks for joining and happy Ubuntu-ing!

Thank you Hackle! I have to agree with him, to get the most out of the team the IRC meetings are a GREAT way to get involved. You'll be surprised how quickly you will become personal with the team :) It's also I think the best way to ask questions and learn about the current projects we are engaged in.
