Decent Free Ebooks/stories online

I read a lot of ebooks on my palm zodiac and wondered if anyone knows of any decent free ebooks. I have used Project Gutenberg which is great for the classics but it is good to find more up to date stuff.

A Study in Emerald by Neil Gaiman is one I can recommend as a jolly good read:

I don't know of such websites, but I'm just posting to say that Neil Gaiman is awesome. I particularly like the (non free) books Neverwhere and American Gods.

wondering how you do your ebooks onto your palm. i haven't tried it yet since using linux, but did so with windows often. do you convert the text to the PDB or just find sites that have the pdbs already available?

I download books, etc, a lot. First stopping place is The Online Books Page at http://*******ooks.library.upenn.edu/ 25,000 books and getting more all the time.

I bought a Rocket eBook when they were first manufactured in 1999. I use it every day. I like to read free stuff, have only paid for books a couple of times just to see what they were like.

I use an old laptop running win98 for synchronising my Zodiac. Unfortunately things like Avantgo don't seem to work with linux yet.

If you want PDBs you can save things from Open Office in PDB format. It is listed as Aportisdoc in the save menu list of file types. This is the easiest way to convert TXT, HTM, RTF etc.

For the most part, manybooks is not as good Project Gutenberg, because it has much more typos in the convention from image to text.

For the most part, manybooks is not as good Project Gutenberg, because it has much more typos in the convention from image to text.
Where did you hear that? Most of the books I have downloaded from manybooks were gutenberg books. The plus is a website you can search through the books easily. I find it a lot easier to browse around and search on manybooks than gutenberg. They also sport reviews, and book covers.

I will give manybooks that, it is pretty decent when it comes to navigation, and even better the PG when it comes to formats.

But as for the text, when LibriVox was using manybooks to read from, we found many errors in the text. And it couldn't have been a PG book because Gutenberg didn't have it.
