mac guy: Hi I'm a mac
total stiff: And I'm a PC
*mac guy starts listening to some music*
total stiff: Hey, can I listen to that?
mac guy: Sure! On a mac, you can play lots of music with things that begin with"i" isnt that fun?
total stiff: I can't hear anything, why?
*mac guy starts starts to stammer*

I would hold off on this as Apple is trying to convince the record companies to let them strip off the DRM (may I add getting a mixed bag of responses... Warner said no way, but EMI said good idea)... maybe walmart or Urge would be a better target?

Check out the attachment from Defective By Design; it's a pretty cool image! I'd like to print it out as a sticker and put it on the iTunes Music Card displays in the shops :-)

This is a bit pathetic. Apple have to have DRM in Itunes due to the fact that Record Labels won't let them sell music. Name me one mainstream Download service that doesn't contain DRM. Name me a CD shop that doesn't sell DRM'd CD's.

What use would a Music download service be without any music?...

IPod's aren't as bad as people make out. They have their place in the market and have a good solid following. Granted they only work with Itunes but that's just Mac's marketing ethic. They've always been that way.

Apple won't license fair play because then it will get cracked and pirated and that will abolish Apple's DRM. It's not all about Utopian computing, there has to be some money made somewhere.

Anyway Itunes doesn't make them that much money, actually it's making terrible amounts for them. Apple just don't expect it to do well, they honestly don't care.

Itunes is no different to that proprietary software you need to run your Creative Zen, or your Lovely Iriver.

could be worse. it could be a text editor.

Of course, emacs could also be a good music player--I wouldn't know, as I don't use emacs.

Those look pretty sweet. I always wanted to build a project headphone amplifier for my Minidisc walkman, I might just be making my own player now. :)

Yeah, I asked for the "Sakura" kit on the Raphael Teuthis' site for my birthday.

I have seen them, usually none-too-portable. The Compact Flash one on the teuthis website can run off of microdrives, which is technically a hard drive, but it is small capacity and really expensive.
