I have a Gforce 5500 card installed now in a P4 machine with 1.75 gigs of ram. Get a lot of x server problems. I have a ATI Radeon X 1600 Pro with 512 mb that I am considering installing. I know that is a faster card than the Gforce but will it be more stable with Ubuntu? Just checking to see what the general thoughts are on this.

nvidia is easier to work with... in terms of installing drivers and getting xgl/compiz/beryl to work... ati has always had problems with linux... so if it was up to me, i would support a company that supports linux... eg. i would buy a nvidia card :)

i have a nvidia gforce 7900gs and i'm a happy little bunny

I don't think it would be better (probably worse).
What are your current problems with nvidia?

No real problems with nvidia per se. Ya'll are confirming my thoughts on ATI. Had found that even on WinXP Nvidia was a better fit. My ATI cards always seemed to mess with the system and conflict with installed software. SO thanks for the comments, will stay with Nvidia.
