Hi all

So here we are at last, after my 3rd distro I am settled on kubuntu :)

I had no joy with the previous 2 and heard a lot about this one from work.

A total nooob to this after spending oooooh absolute years on M$, I can still remember sticking in the 51/2" floppies into the drive and locking them shut.

But now....LINUX.

I was wondering if this desktop could make it into an office environment and tested the wife on the office.org - she is too much M$ orientated so I won't holf my breath, but for the server side of things? Too damned right.

If the old farts like me who have been set in their ways makes an effort to change then it should spread like wild fire.

Anyway, my only advise is to read the top 10 in the security section (TOP10: Your Top Ten Man Pages).

There is a reference to the sudo command that had me foxed for ages.

Ever wondered why typing su and the password and authetication failed?

The root account is disabled by default.

Use this to enable it for 15 mins. This link will tell you more:

Well that's my contribution and hopefully will definately not be the last (bar the interuption migrating to NZ).

Cheers

NM
