Well, about 8 months ago I decided that we really needed a server at home to take *everything*. So, I scrounged an old Pii 233 from work, got a Promise TX2 off eBay, bought 3x160G drives, and decided to try my hand at Linux. I went with Debian and have got small partitions on the drives as a raid 1 boot and the rest as a raid 5 root.
With 300G free, life was great, until a couple of weeks ago when it filled up! Family grumbled about stuff being scattered off onto drives on local machines, so now I'm getting serious!
CM Stacker with 9 drives fitted (space for 3 more). One small drive for the OS and swap, 4x250G as a raid 5 for stuff I don't want to lose, and 4x300G in a raid 0 as snapshots of other machines etc.
We'll *never* fill that much space! :-)
