Hi, I'm just curious why that thread was closed? (http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=350981&page=6)

There were no forum rules being broken from what I saw. Memebers also understood that flaming would result in the thread being closed, thus kept calm. I also thought the thread was quite productive where people were sharing their experiences with the default theme and style.

Are we not allowed to discuss what we think are shortcomings of Ubuntu or does everything have to be bound by positive comments towards Ubuntu? Either way it would be nice to know. :guitar:

I think the explanation by Artificial Intelligence in his post when he closed the thread was adequate:

This brown vs pink with green spots debate has been done to death! If you want to moan and groan about the color, then join the other 300 people in Should Ubuntu ditch the brown? (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=285916&highlight=should+ubuntu) topic.

Some like tea, some like coffee - you can please most people with functionality, but you can never, ever, please all with artwork.and that is a good end lines for this subject.
Case closed.Basically he was saying that this discussion wasn't really serving any purpose...it was a rehash of personal likes vs. dislikes and the discussion wasn't likely to go anywhere positive.

I don't know that the thread needed to be closed but I support his choosing to do it for the reasons stated above.

EDIT: I missed this and need to reply to it as well...sorry about that.
Are we not allowed to discuss what we think are shortcomings of Ubuntu or does everything have to be bound by positive comments towards Ubuntu? Either way it would be nice to know. You can make comments regarding your opinions, both positive and negative. You can do so freely. The only restriction we place on the posting of opinions is that they be presented respectfully and politely.

Mathew, thanks for the reply. But honestly I don't understand why that thread was closed. It was a normal discussion in the correct section (Moved by an administrator). We are all pushing forward our opinions. Does a topic like that really need to serve a purpose other than enable people to throw in their views of what they think?

I'm curious, if that topic was not allowed, then do we need to go to another forum to discuss Ubuntu off-topic subjects? This hardly seems fair.

At present, I am assuming that AI did not like the negative comments, thus decided to close it with a final saying. I.e. -It's brown and that's the way it is, get over it. He might not have said it in those words but it sure seems like his words are final. This is completely not fair to those of us who regularly visit the forum and contribute to what we can. Are we not allowed to have our say?

You make some fair points. I'll reopen the thread.

Thanks Mathew, I didn't think it would be re-open.

Normally only Admins are allowed to post here, but I got permission to answer in my defense in this thread by Ubuntu-Geek.

To Bagboy23

To make a few things clear. The thread was not closed due to my personal opinion about which colour or which shape Ubuntu nor about negative comments about brown. Every decision I take regarding closing/moving/editing is taken by an objective standpoint (been a moderator for several years on several boards and still are).
At this subject the thread was closed by several reasons which you may or may not agree with; First thing was that the discussion quickly moved into taste versus taste which wasn't the topic makers intention (it wasn't what he asked people for) which sadly ruined a really good topic. Secondly it started to moving in circles (when same answers turned up for the tenth times). Also a few rude answers which was questionable stepping over the line with the guide rules.
The one which really heavely weighted was that color versus color/taste versus taste have been discussed endlessly since day one, over and over again (a quick search can confirm this). And again it wasn't the point of that thread.

Even that I disagree with Matthew open the thread again and I still hold to that I did it after the book, I respect his decission to do so.
