Those reviews speak for themselves. The 64 bit Ubuntu gave me a lot of trouble, so if this turns out to be good - I think it'll be safe to say that 64 bit has finally matured. The final version is suppost to be released this Saturday. Is anybody else trying it?

Running it for about 2 weeks now.

ITS SWEET!!!!!

The Kubuntu team needs to have a look at Mepis or just quit the game.

Since Mepis is developed (basically) by one guy, I really wish he and the kubuntu team would get together and put all those resources behind Mepis as Ubuntu's KDE offering. There are certainly issues with this (codecs and such), but Mepis is strong in areas where Kubuntu is weak and vice versa, and they are both bad to the point where I use straight Ubuntu instead of either (and I very strongly prefer KDE over GNOME). Bringing these two together could create a spectacular KDE based distro for the *Buntu/Debian/Mepis family

So, other than the extra graphical tools, what sets Mepis apart from Kubuntu? Is the issue where apps (like Adept) that use kdesu to get root privileges fail to start half the time resolved? Because that's been bugging me for about 2 releases. And is Konqueror any more stable? Or do all of the 64-bit packages (like Scilab) actually have their dependencies in the repositories? If so, this really is exciting.

Getting ready to upgrade to 64 bit. Mepis seems to have everything going in the right direction. Will have to try it out and see. And from what I've read in the Ubuntu forums 64 bit has a long way to go. I still would like to use Gnome.
