Anybody know of the distro that is aimed towards photo & video editing ?

Would anyone be interested in creating a ubuntu one or a ubuntu add-on ?

Video would require RT kernel I think. Need stuff like ICC colour profiles, raw support etc

Two that I have heard of are VideoLinux (http://videolinux.net) and MediaLinux (http://www.mediainlinux.org/).

I think there are plenty of tools and apps that you could install, located right in the repositories, without creating a whole separate distro.

That being said, I think any type of add-on would be great. If I had any programming skills I would love to help. :-(

there are many video editing aps knocking around, although only a few are perhaps complex enough for you. have you tried Cinelerra? i havent spent much time with it but it seems pretty good. as for a linux distribution that focuses on video, there's videolinux :p

for photo i think you're basically stuck with gimp. it works for me, but perhaps not for you. there is another program that tries to offer a bit more than gimp provides but i dont think its all that stable just yet, and ive forgotten its name.

Looks like Ubuntu Studio will do the job.

I dont think you need a new distro for this, but you need the applications for the job. Take a look at this long thread to find what you need; http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=293798

Thx for the list. I think Ubuntu studio would make a nice base though. It also has some RT kernel support.
